ST. LOUIS - Orchid Island Juice Company of Fort Pier, Fla. has voluntarily recalling a variety of brands of unpasteurized, fresh-squeezed orange juice with an expiration date from prior to July 25, 2005. The company says this product, produced under a variety of brand names, could be potentially contaminated with Salmonella typhimurium.

At customer request, Schnucks carries this product only in the produce department of 21 stores as shown below (see list). According to Dianna Pasley, Schnucks director of food safety, the Schnucks produce department rejected delivery of product with an expiration date of July 25, 2005. But customers may have purchased product from earlier shipments.
Orchid Island Juice Company has asked that anyone who recently purchased this product should return the container to any Schnucks or Logli store. A full refund will be offered.
The recall also includes frozen unpasteurized orange juice, but Pasley says Schnucks does not carry the frozen product.
Symptoms manifest within 72 hours and could include high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Symptoms may persist for four to seven days. Anyone who may have ingested the potentially affected product and is experiencing symptoms should consult a physician.
