Nestle Purina Expands Alpo Recall On Canned Dog Food

Product may contain wheat gluten with melamine

ST. LOUIS - Nestle Purina, of St. Louis, Mo., has expanded a nationwide voluntary recall of Alpo Canned Dog Food in 13.2-oz cans to include Alpo Prime Slices as well as Alpo Prime Cuts. The company is taking the voluntary action after learning that wheat gluten containing melamine, a substance not approved for use in food, was provided to Purina by the same company that also supplied Menu Foods.

Schnucks and Logli stores carry a limited number of the affected products and are urging customers to check for the following Alpo products in the 13.2-oz can and the Alpo 12-count Variety Pack of Prime Slices:

Schnucks and Logli customers in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi may return the specified products to their nearest store for a full refund.

This recall includes other Alpo Prime products not carried by Schnucks and Logli stores. Consumers are urged to check the Nestlé Purina site for additional affected products at www.purina.com.
