Grocery Headquarters Announces
Schnuck Markets as 2010 Independent Retailer of the Year
January 4, 2010
New York – Schnuck Markets has been chose by Grocery Headquarters Magazine as its 2010 Independent Retailer of the Year. The company was selected by the Grocery Headquarters Board of Editors and Industry Advisors based on its aggressive and successful marketing and merchandising programs, as well as its ability to develop store formats that satisfy the diversified needs of shoppers in the Midwest and, especially, around the company’s home base of St. Louis. The company operates more than 90 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Mississippi, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Schnucks has a long history of satisfied customers,” says Seth Mendelson, Publisher and Editorial Director of Grocery Headquarters Magazine, based in New York. “The chain’s merchandising and marketing strategies have helped it establish its own unique niche in a very crowded marketplace. Schnucks stores are easy to shop and easy to convince consumers to spend a little more time in-store and walk out with a few more products in their shopping cart.
“Furthermore, Schnucks executives always seem eager to test the boundaries of the marketplace. The latest example is the Culinaria format, which company officials call a hybrid urban market with an emphasis on fine food and great culinary experience. We are very proud to name Schnuck Markets as our 2010 Independent Retailer of the Year.”
Previous Winners of the Independent Retailer of the Year award include K-Va-T (Fresh City) and Detroit-based Hillers Market.
