Schnucks' Home Page Stands Out in The Crowd
ST. LOUIS - A leading computer technology journal has named the home page of Schnuck Markets, Inc. as one of the 100 best sites on the Web. Computerworld announced that Schnucks has been included in the publication's 1997 Premier 100 list.
The Premier 100 includes those organizations excelling in their use of Web technologies over the global Internet. Schnucks was one of 100 companies selected from an original list of 10,000 organizations in more than a dozen market sectors. Only eight companies of those selected were from the retail sector. Premier 100 selections were based on innovation, application complexity and value generated or expected from the Web site.
"Providing customers with the best possible service was our goal when developing the home page, but it certainly is flattering to be honored for our efforts to use this emerging technology," says Scott C. Schnuck, president and chief operating officer of Schnuck Markets, Inc. "Our current home page is just the beginning of our efforts to use Internet technology to make shopping more convenient."
Internet users can visit the Schnucks page at www.schnucks.com to place plant or flower orders, or purchase a gift certificate. Also, they will find information on entertainment venues, including a seating chart of Busch Memorial Stadium, and they can order tickets for many sporting events.
If an Internet user needs ready-to-eat foods, a quick trip to the home page will show the customer what is available to save time when ordering by phone.
Those wanting to cook at home can click on the recipe link and sort through thousands of recipes by categories such as meat or vegetarian, or by nutritional content such a lower fat or lower calorie. Site visitors can design meal plans, and if their family is bigger or smaller than the portions noted on the recipe, the user can indicate the desired servings, and the ingredients will be re-apportioned accordingly.
Users can click to an audio greeting from Scott Schnuck when they arrive at the "About Schnucks" section of the home page. Also included is a directory of all Schnucks stores by geographic location and an index of store services with telephone numbers for various departments, including the pharmacy and floral shop. Information on employment opportunities is also available on the Web site.
In addition, an e-mail link allows customers to submit questions or comments about Schnucks' products or services directly to Schnucks' consumer affairs department.
The Schnucks home page offers full security to Internet shoppers. Users have the option of clicking on a security icon, which prevents information, such as credit card numbers, from being intercepted by a third party.
Schnuck Markets, Inc., founded in 1939 in St. Louis, Mo., is a regional, family-owned supermarket company with 94 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Kansas.
