Schnucks' bagels can be used for a variety of meals and snacks. The following recipes provide a few ideas for creative bagel consumption.
6 Schnucks Jalapeno Bagels, split and toasted
3 tbsp. of pizza sauce
1 can (8-3/4 oz.) Schnucks Dark Red Kidney Beans, drained
1 cup chopped onion
1 to 2 finely chopped jalapeno peppers (remove seeds for a milder flavor)
12 Schnucks Tortilla Chips (white or yellow)
2 cups (8 oz.) shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 tbsp. Schnucks chili powder
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Spoon 1-1/2 tsp. pizza sauce on each bagel half. Evenly top with beans, onion, jalapeno pepper, tortilla chips and cheese. Sprinkle with chili powder. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until heated through.
2 oz. Schnucks plain or low-fat plain cream cheese
2 oz. crumbled bleu cheese (about 1/4-cup)
2 tbsp. finely chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
4 to 6 Plain or Egg-flavored Schnucks bagels, split
1 ripe but firm pear
Beat the cream cheese in a bowl until light. Stir in the bleu cheese and nuts. Mix until the bleu cheese is evenly distributed but not totally dissolved. Spread on warm or room-temperature bagel halves. Halve and core the pear and peel if desired. Cut into thin wedges and arrange on top of cheese. Enjoy!
1 tbsp. President's Choice Splendido Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1/4-cup seeded and diced ripe tomato
2 tbsp. shredded fresh basil leaves
Pinch of salt
1 Schnucks bagel (try Garlic, Asiago, Onion or Plain), split
1 clove of garlic, peeled and halved lengthwise
Combine the oil, tomato, basil and salt. Let the mixture stand for 15 minutes. Toast the bagel in the toaster or under the broiler. While the bagel is still hot, rub the cut surface with the garlic. Spoon the tomato mixture on top. Eat at once.
1 oz. Schnucks cream cheese
1 Schnucks bagel, split
Schnucks jelly (apple, strawberry or grape)
Toast the bagel, if you like. Spread a layer of cream cheese on each half and top with your favorite jam or jelly. Mix and match different flavors of Schnucks cream cheese and Schnucks bagels for the perfect combination. Try an apple-cinnamon bagel, plain cream cheese and apple jelly. Or experiment with plain bagels and get super-fruity with Schnucks lite raspberry cream cheese and strawberry jelly. Spread the topping thick or thin depending on your mood. For smaller children, make a closed sandwich to prevent making a mess!
