New Schnucks Super Center Opens at Dillon Plaza in Jefferson County

ST. LOUIS --- Schnuck Markets, Inc. opened a new super center at Dillon Plaza in north Jefferson County today, June 3, at 9 a.m. The new 62,300-square-foot store is located at 20 Dillon Plaza at the intersection of Gravois Road (Highway 30) and Dillon Road in unincorporated Jefferson County.

The new store replaces Schnucks' High Ridge store, which closed on June 1. It is twice as large as the High Ridge location, which Schnucks acquired from National. Dan Dettmer, formerly store manager at Schnucks' South City location, has been named store manager for the Dillon Plaza Schnucks. About 225 full-time and part-time associates will be employed at the new store. Schnucks is the anchor tenant for Dillon Plaza.

Dillon Plaza Offers One-Stop Shopping for Many Consumers

"Since our new store is twice as large as the one it replaces, our customers will enjoy broader product selection and expanded services than what we could offer at our High Ridge location," said Craig D. Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer of Schnucks. "This is the first store in the area to offer customers such a full-service supermarket."

The 24-hour super center will offer customers a full food bar/salad bar, hot food and Oriental carryout, and an in-store bakery. In addition, Certified Black Angus Beef will be available in the service meat department. An extensive line of wines, beers and liquor will be offered. Customers also will find a full selection of the President's Choice premium line of products and the full range of Schnucks' private label products and Nancy Anne Bakery items, including the Healthy Living line of low- or no-fat cakes, brownies and muffins.

Other store features include full-service meat, seafood and deli departments, floral department, bulk foods department, cellular phone and pager department, video department, a health and beauty care department, a general merchandise department and a pharmacy.

The pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. It is among 58 pharmacies operated in metro St. Louis by Schnucks, which has 77 pharmacies in four states. Schnucks honors most major insurance programs, including United Health Care and PruCare.

A NationsBank branch office also will open in July inside the Dillon Plaza store.

Schnucks operates 94 stores in Missouri, Kansas, Illinois and Indiana, including 73 stores in metro St. Louis. The company was founded in St. Louis in 1939.

S.M. Wilson & Co. served as general contractor for the project, designed by Nova Group, Inc., architect.
