The new store is more than double the size of the 70,000-square-foot Logli store it replaces, located at 8010 N. Second St. in Machesney Park. That store was closed Aug. 2 in preparation for the Loves Park store opening. Logli also operates a 130,000-square-foot store at 6410 East State St. and a 65,000-square-foot store at 3150 N. Rockton Ave., both in Rockford. The new store's hours extend from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
"Since opening our large East State Street store in 1995, we've sought to bring an expanded variety of products and services to more of our Rockford area customers," said Joseph W. Logli, president of Logli Supermarkets. "We want to provide our customers with the convenience of being able to shop in a supermarket that makes it easy to pick up everything they need in one spot."
The store will feature the first full-service Schnucks Pharmacy in the area, offering a full line of prescription drugs and over-the-counter health products. The pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
"Our Loves Park Logli provides the ultimate in convenience for our customers. Our great mix of products and services enhances the entire supermarket shopping experience available to our Rockford area customers," said Craig D. Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer of Schnuck Markets, Inc. Logli Supermarkets is a division of Schnuck Markets, Inc., based in St. Louis, Mo.
About 425 full-time and part-time associates, 300 of whom transferred from the Machesney Park store, will serve Logli customers at the new store. Steve Hevrin, who previously managed the Machesney Park store, is manager of the new Loves Park store. Other management team members include Assistant Manager Pat Rushing, Grocery Manager Rich Mascari and Office Manager Pat Syring, all of whom served customers in those positions at the Machesney Park store, as well as Front End Supervisor Gary Rossol, previously front end supervisor at Logli's Rockton Avenue store.
For in-store dining, customers will have their choice of Logli's Pasta and Pizza, the Second Aisle Cafe Restaurant, and a complete fresh soup and salad bar.
The full-service meat department will offer "Gold Label" specially tenderized beef. More than 40 varieties of seafood will be offered in the seafood department. The full-service floral department will have a full-time florist and designer. Customers will have access to more than 3,000 titles in the store's self-service video department.
A full-service Alpine Bank and a family optical center will be added later.
Cord Construction Co. of Rockford was general contractor on the project. Larson & Darby of Rockford served as architect.
Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 89 stores in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. The family-owned company was founded in St. Louis in 1939.
