Schnucks Honored as One of Nation's Top Five Leaders Meeting Customers' Needs in Liquor Department Retailing

ST. LOUIS -- Schnuck Markets Inc. was named one of the nation's top five leaders in liquor department retailing, according to Market Watch, a national trade monthly which follows the liquor and alcohol industries. Schnucks was selected on the basis of its extensive product selection, high volume, good customer service and strong community relations. Market Watch recently honored five "Market Leader 1998" retailers at the 15th annual Market Watch Leaders dinner held in Chicago.

"Schnucks was a standout," said Liza Zimmerman, Leaders editor of Market Watch. "The Leaders category covers retailers of any size from large chains to mom-and-pop stores. Schnucks was noted for its huge volume and great selection. It is seen as an important part of the community. Schnucks stood out to editors making the selection." "Our success is a result of the combined dedication of our store management teams and our merchandising department to provide the selection our customers want," said Rick Frede, vice president for grocery, dairy and frozen foods.

Schnuck Markets operates liquor departments in 88 of the 90 stores it operates in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. The family-owned company was founded in St. Louis in 1939.
