The award is named for Doretta and the late William Godenberg, two founders of Life Skills Foundation. It was created in 1993 to honor the exceptional efforts of an individual or business on behalf of people with disabilities.
"We could not have chosen a more deserving recipient this year," said Wendy Buehler, executive director of Life Skills Foundation. "Schnucks' commitment to hiring people with disabilities is second to none."
Life Skills Foundation was founded in 1964 and assists people with disabilities to work and live with dignity in the community.
"We focus on what a potential associate can do, not what he or she cannot do, and match his or her abilities to the job duties required," says Craig D. Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer. "That is why our associates are successful and why our customers support our efforts to hire individuals of all abilities."
Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 90 stores in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. The family-owned company was founded in St. Louis in 1939.
