Construction Of Schnucks At Richardson Road & I-55 In Arnold To Begin Soon

ST. LOUIS - Construction plans are being finalized for a new Schnucks Supercenter to be built west of the Richardson Road/I-55 interchange at the intersection of Vogel Road and West Outer Road South in Arnold, Mo. Construction is expected to begin this fall with a planned opening in summer 2000.

Construction will begin upon completion of final construction plans, a job bid process and the acquisition of appropriate building permits.

The new Schnucks Supercenter will feature meat, seafood and deli departments along with video, floral, bulk foods and general merchandise departments. The combination food and drug store also will include a bakery and a pharmacy plus departments for health and beauty care products. The store will be the second Schnucks for Arnold-area customers. The other Schnucks in Arnold is located on Jeffco Boulevard, about two miles from the site of the new store. The first Schnucks in Arnold opened in June 1978.

The supercenter will be part of a larger shopping center to be constructed containing additional retail shops. Pending final design considerations, it is anticipated between 20,000 and 30,000 square feet of retail shops will be constructed in addition to the supermarket.

Work on the site began in 1998 and included grading, sewer installation and water line installation. Schnucks also made road improvements including improving the intersection at Vogel and West Outer Road South.

"As the Arnold area continues to grow, we want to continue to meet the needs of its residents," said Craig D. Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer.

Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 91 stores in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. The family-owned company was founded in St. Louis in 1939.
