New Rockford Plaza Logli Offers Customers Fresh, High Quality Products; Extensive Variety; Low Prices and New European Market Store Decor
ROCKFORD, Ill. - Logli Supermarkets continued its tradition of offering an extensive variety of high quality products at low prices and introduced a new European market store decor at the grand opening of its fourth store in the Rockford area today. The 82,000-square-foot food and drug store is located at 2642 Charles St. in the Rockford Plaza shopping center, at the northwest corner of Charles Street and Hunter Avenue. The store is open 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. About 300 full- and part-time associates staff the store.
Unique Store Format Highlights Fresh, High Quality Products
The store is the first new store design since Schnuck Markets acquired Logli supermarkets in March 1998. The store features a European market decor in the fresh produce, meat, seafood, deli, deli/carryout, bakery and floral departments. These departments are arranged in an open area beneath a high exposed, painted structural ceiling that creates the open-market atmosphere. Produce will be displayed on attractive wooden tables and market carts. The large glass arch opening lets outside light into the market area for a pleasant shopping experience.
"The new design combines the best size, format and features of Logli and Schnucks stores so that we can offer Rockford-area customers the best shopping experience," said Craig D. Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer of Schnuck Markets, Inc.
In 1997, when Schnucks first announced plans to open a store at this site, original plans were to build a store of 63,000 square feet, the size of a typical Schnucks. After acquiring Logli in March 1998, Schnucks reviewed that size and configuration plan and developed a new, larger format. "We saw that customers benefited in many ways from an expanded size," said Schnuck. Schnucks recently opened a store with a similar format and size in Peoria.
The store is smaller than the 143,000-square-foot Loves Park Logli and the 130,000-square-foot Logli on East State Street, but remains the third largest supermarket in the Rockford area. The store will feature about the same number of products as the Loves Park and East State stores. Because Loves Park and East State Street have extensive storage areas, less storage area was needed at Rockford Plaza.
