Plans Under Way To Open A 60,000-Square-Foot Store in Summer 2002
ST. LOUIS - Schnuck Markets Inc. has announced that plans are under way to open a 60,000-square-foot food and drug supermarket in summer 2002.
Schnucks has purchased the leasehold rights to the former Montgomery Ward store at 1709 Missouri Blvd. in Jefferson City, Mo., and subsequently has entered into a new lease with the owner of the property to redevelop the seven-acre site which currently contains about 90,000 square feet of buildings.
"We are pleased this opportunity arose and look forward to when we can begin to serve Jefferson City residents," said Craig D. Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer of Schnuck Markets. "We have received requests to build a store for many years from Jefferson City residents. We finally have succeeded in securing a good location to serve the Jefferson City community."
Final configurations and store design currently are in process. Jefferson City residents can expect to enjoy an expansive variety of products and convenience services to meet their
needs in produce, bakery, deli, liquor and wine, meat, seafood, floral, grocery, frozen food, dairy, general merchandise, health and beauty, and pharmacy departments.
A 60,000-square-foot Schnucks generally employs about 200 to 250 full- and part-time associates. Applications typically are taken six to eight weeks before store opening.
Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 92 stores in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. The family-owned company was founded in St. Louis in 1939.
