St. Louis, MO - Customers at the Brentwood Schnucks located at 8800 Manchester Rd. today helped cut the ribbon on the newest Bank of America in-store facility.
According to Lisa W. Murphy, region executive for Bank of America's St. Louis Metro Marketing In-Store Region, the opening of the Brentwood store's facility marks the completion of a series of nine Schnuck Markets, Inc. in-store banking installations over the past year. "The opening of the Brentwood location brings us to a total of 25 Bank of America facilities within Schnucks stores in Missouri and Illinois" Murphy said.
In-store banking helps the Charlotte, N.C.-based Bank of America strengthen its service system while providing new and loyal customers the convenience of banking where they shop. "Bank of America is committed to meeting the customers' needs. Across the nation, we have found non-traditional facilities to be effective in establishing and maintaining relationships with our customers and that's what the banking business is all about," Murphy said.
"In-store banking is a natural extension of our move toward improving customer conveniences," said Craig D. Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer of Schnuck Markets. "It helps customers who find it difficult to visit a traditional banking facility during the day. If they have an account at the in-store branch, then they are able to handle all their family's banking needs at a time that is most convenient for them."
According to Murphy, the satellite banking facilities range in size from 350 to
500 square feet depending on the size of the store and the demonstrated needs of the potential neighborhood customers. All are full-service sites and personnel will handle everything from opening new accounts to accepting loan applications.
"The in-store banks represent growth opportunities for Bank of America," said Murphy. In Illinois, the non-traditional Bank of America facilities outnumber the company's traditional facilities five to three. The Schnucks in-store branches are Bank of America's only operations in Collinsville and Edwardsville. "We hope that by partnering with Schnuck Markets, Inc., an established community leader in the St. Louis metropolitan area, we can demonstrate our commitment to our St. Louis area customers," said Murphy.
Schnucks added its first in-store banking installation through Mercantile Bank in the early '80s and currently maintains partnerships with six different banking institutions. A new, long-term relationship with Bank of America will allow Schnucks to expand this service to other locations.
Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 90 stores and 82 in-store pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana including a Sentry Drug Store in Illinois. The family-owned company was founded in St. Louis in 1939.
