ST. LOUIS - Joanie Taylor, director of consumer affairs for Schnuck Markets, Inc., has been promoted to director, community and consumer affairs.
"Joanie has been instrumental in upholding our commitment to our customers and in implementing Schnucks' quick-response consumer affairs team," said Scott C. Schnuck, president and chief operating officer of Schnuck Markets, Inc. "Maintaining the critical relationship our stores have with the communities we serve is a natural extension of Joanie's interests, skills and abilities."
Taylor joined Schnucks in 1978. She was named consumer affairs specialist in 1986 and promoted to director of consumer affairs in 1995.
Taylor is active in national and international food industry consumer advocacy efforts. She is a current member and past chairperson of the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) Consumer Affairs Committee and is a member of FMI's Environmental Affairs and Communications Committees.
FMI is an international not-for-profit association conducting programs in research, education, industry relations and public affairs on behalf of its 2,300 food retailer and wholesaler members.
Taylor also serves as a member of the Better Business Bureau's Customer Connection Committee, the Foundation Board of SSM-St. Joseph's Hospital in Kirkwood, Mo., the board of directors for Operation Food Search, the board of directors for Choose Environmental Excellence - Gateway Region, the St. Louis Variety Club Allocations Committee and the Youth Ministry Advisory Board of the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
In 1998, Taylor received the Donald O. Schnuck Memorial Award for Customer Service, one of the highest awards in the company. The award is given annually to the Schnucks associate who exemplifies excellence in customer service and integrity and honors late co-founder and chairman Donald O. Schnuck.
Taylor is assuming community relations responsibilities formerly handled by Nancy Schnuck Diemer, who recently retired from her position as director of community relations.
Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 90 stores and 82 in-store pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana including a Sentry Drug Store in Illinois. The family-owned company was founded in St. Louis in 1939.
