ST. LOUIS -- Today, Terry Schnuck, general counsel for Schnuck Markets, Inc., announced his plans to resign his position with his family's company in order to pursue creative interests. Schnuck told company associates that he plans to pursue a career that revolves around musical theater (off-stage). However, he will continue to serve on the company's Board of Directors.
Schnuck has held the position of general counsel for the past 18 years. In that time, he contributed significantly to the growth and success of the family business. Along with brothers Craig, Scott, Mark, Todd and sister Nancy -- Terry has helped to position the company as a leader in the grocery retail industry. With revenues of $2.1 billion, the company is now one of the largest family-owned grocery retailers in the nation.
Craig Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer says, "Ours is a very close family. I can say that we are all excited for Terry and fully support him in this decision." He added, "Terry has been instrumental in guiding this company through some very exciting times, including the important National acquisition, which helped to reinforce Schnucks' position as a leader in the food industry."
Schnuck continued, "My brothers and I will miss working with Terry each day, but we fully expect that he, like Nancy (who retired six months ago to start a family), will remain involved through regular family meetings and special company events and activities."
Terry Schnuck, a 1971 graduate of John Burroughs, earned a degree in economics from Tulane University in 1975. He graduated from St. Louis University Law School and Washington University's Olin School of Business in 1980. After working for four years with the St. Louis law firm now known as Greensfelder, Hempker and Gale, Schnuck joined the family company as General Counsel in 1984.
Schnuck Markets Inc., founded in St. Louis in 1939, currently operates 90 stores in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. The business ranks 83rd on the Family Business Magazine's list of America's 150 largest family-owned companies.
