John O'Donnell Promoted to Schnucks Division Manager

ST. LOUIS - John O'Donnell, Collinsville store manager for Schnuck Markets, Inc., has been promoted to division manager and will oversee the operations of Schnuck stores in Illinois. O'Donnell follows Karen Tolan, who is now heading up the company's new Mid-South Division.

O'Donnell has spent most of his career serving the Illinois area. He joined Schnucks in 1972 as a grocery clerk and moved up the ranks as a merchandiser. In 1988, he became manager of the Collinsville store. Over the past 14 years, he excelled in store operations and became a vital part of the Collinsville community.

"I am ready for this new opportunity and excited about the challenges and rewards that will come with it," said O'Donnell. "I am particularly excited about serving Illinois communities on a broader scope."

Reporting to Bill Bredenkoetter, senior vice president of store operations, O'Donnell will oversee the day-to-day operations of the 13 stores in Division Two.

In his new position, he will supervise operations not only at the Collinsville store, but also at Belleville West, Swansea, Fairview Heights, Cahokia, Edwardsville, Highland, East St. Louis, Waterloo, Belleville East, Granite City, Carbondale and Centralia.

"John is a consummate professional in the grocery business and an asset to the community in which he lives," said Craig D. Schnuck, chairman and chief executive officer of Schnuck Markets. "He was an obvious choice for division manager and deserving of this position."

Described as passionate, tenacious, team-minded and dedicated, O'Donnell has offered his support and leadership to dozens of organizations, schools and churches throughout the metro Illinois area.

O'Donnell's affiliations include the St. James Church, Sunrise Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, Collinsville Economic Development Committee, Belleville Memorial Hospital Committee, United Way and the Federal Workforce Investment Board.

Each year, he coordinates the Schnucks-Collinsville High School Basketball Tournament and was instrumental in the development and growth of the annual Collinsville Senior Celebration and Health Fair.

Last November, O'Donnell received the Edward J. Schnuck Award for outstanding community service. This award is one of the two highest honors awarded at Schnucks.

O'Donnell and his wife, Karen, have three children. The family resides in

Millstadt, Ill.

Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 103 stores and 92 in-store pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. This includes five stores that operate as Logli Supermarkets and a stand-alone Sentry drug store.
