Schnucks "Festival of Foods" Lends Flavor to Missouri Black Expo

ST. LOUIS -- Glory Foods, a Columbus, Ohio-based minority-owned business, will be the star of the show as Schnuck Markets, Inc. sponsors the "Festival of Foods" at the annual Missouri Black Expo, August 17 and 18 at the America's Center.

According to Ed Ferguson, urban affairs administrator and store manager at the Delmar-Kingshighway Schnucks, the "Festival of Foods" will include more than 50 booths featuring a wide range of fresh, prepared and packaged foods; snack items; health and beauty products and more. Customers will find all featured items for sale at their neighborhood Schnucks store.

Ferguson said, "Our partnership with the Missouri Black Expo provides us with an opportunity to showcase the quality and variety of our foods and merchandise and to encourage growth and development with minority product lines."

In 1995, Schnucks played a significant role in launching the Glory Food product line. Glory has grown in leaps and bounds over the past seven years. Ferguson said, "At this year's Expo, our customers can look forward to the debut of Glory Foods' new line of seasoned vegetables. I believe this product line will appeal to customers who enjoy southern, homestyle cooking."

The food court will include samples of Schnucks brand products like chili, oyster crackers, hot link sausages, cole slaw, our great tasting super soda. Customers will also see and sample new and traditional products from a variety of vendors.

The Missouri Black Expo is the state's largest African-American consumer exhibition. It is expected to draw more than 70,000 visitors with about 600 activity booths, exhibits, workshops, food and entertainment.

The Expo will operate Saturday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Show hours on Sunday are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Adult admission is $8. Children six years and younger are admitted free. Discount coupons redeemable for $1 off regular adult admission at the main gate will be available at all Schnuck stores.

Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 103 stores and 91 in-store pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. This includes five stores that operate as Logli Supermarkets and a stand-alone Sentry drug store. A new Schnucks in Jefferson City, Mo., the state's capital, will open August 20, 2002. Schnuck Markets, Inc. is currently ranked 83rd on Family Business Magazine's list of 150 largest family companies.
