Schnucks at Capital Crossing to Open August 20

ST. LOUIS -- On Tuesday, August 20 at 9 a.m., Jefferson City's new Schnucks store will be open for business. The store is located in the new Capital Crossing Shopping Center at 1801 Missouri Boulevard.

According to Craig D. Schnuck, chief executive officer of St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets, Inc., the much-anticipated grand opening will include fun for the whole family.

Schnuck said, "Opening day, like every other day at Schnucks, will be all about the customer. We are pleased to have the opportunity to show Jefferson Citians just how excited we are to be in a position to serve the capital city." He added, "We've been scouting the Jefferson City area for about 25 years now. I believe we've finally found a site that will be accessible to the entire community."

Activities include food sampling throughout the store and prize giveaways in nearly all departments. "Customers will be able to enter drawings from opening day through September 15. A number of prizes will be awarded including a Jenn-Air portable gas grill valued at $700, and $50 in Certified Angus Beef," said Schnuck.

As the anchor store, Schnucks will be the first to occupy space at Capital Crossing. However, The DESCO Group, the property's developer, is currently finalizing contracts for tenants who will occupy the more than 22,300 square feet of additional retail space.

Tim McCormick of The DESCO Group is responsible for leasing and sales at Capital Crossing. He said, "Local, regional and national retailers have shown tremendous interest in Capital Crossing. Leases are pending for virtually all of the remaining space (attached and detached space) in the shopping center."

According to McCormick, Cato Fashions, Radio Shack, Great Clips and Papa Murphy's Pizza are confirmed, and negotiations are ongoing with retailers in consumer electronics, video rental, dry cleaning services and jewelry and accessories. All specialty retailers should be open for business to the public by late October.

Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 103 stores and 92 in-store pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. This includes five stores that operate as Logli Supermarkets and a stand-alone Sentry drug store. Schnuck Markets, Inc. is currently ranked 83rd on Family Business Magazine's list of 150 largest family companies.
