Schnucks Honors Stoyanoff of Edwardsville With Top Community Service Award

ST. LOUIS - On Oct. 6, Schnuck Markets, Inc. hosted more than 800 people at its annual Service Awards Banquet held at the Millennium Hotel in St. Louis. The evening honored associates for years of service and two top awards were given in honor of the company's founders.

One of the evening's highest honors, the Edward J. Schnuck Award for outstanding community service, went to Nick Stoyanoff, store manager of the Schnucks in Edwardsville, Ill. Stoyanoff joined the company in 1995 after Schnucks acquired the National division of supermarkets from Loblaw Companies Limited of Canada.

"When I started working at Schnucks, I was excited to learn of the company's philosophy on community service," said Stoyanoff. "Giving back to the community has always been a priority of mine as well. I do what I can to make a difference, but I must give credit to my family and my store team; they are always there to support me in whatever I do."

According to Scott C. Schnuck, president and chief operating officer of Schnuck Markets, the award is a tribute to his late uncle, Edward Schnuck. Edward, along with his brother Donald, helped to guide the company in its early years. "Uncle Ed was known throughout the community for his generosity and willingness to devote himself to causes and organizations in which he believed," said Schnuck. "Each year, we honor an individual who epitomizes that kind of dedication and commitment."

Stoyanoff currently serves as a board member of the American Cancer Society and the Edwardsville Rotary Club. He is a committee member for the Edwardsville March of Dimes Walk America, the Edwardsville Community Foundation, Edwardsville-Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois ARC.

Stoyanoff is married to Martha, who works as a systems analyst for Schnucks; they have 5 children and reside in Troy, Ill.

Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 102 stores and 93 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. This includes five stores that operate as Logli Supermarkets and a stand-alone Sentry drug store. Schnuck Markets, Inc. is currently ranked 83rd on Family Business Magazine's list of 150 largest family companies.
