Proposed Settlement Could Bring an End to Work Stoppage
ST. LOUIS -- A special meeting has been called for Local 655 associates of Dierbergs, Schnucks and Shop `n Save. Members will have an opportunity to vote on a proposed settlement at 9 a.m. on Friday morning, Oct. 31, at the America's Center. (Doors will open at 7:30 a.m.)
At the request of Commissioner Roger Hendrix of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, both the Union and the Food Employers Council have agreed not to release details of the proposed settlement prior to the vote.
Hendrix, credited for facilitating this latest round of discussions, first became involved on October 16. On October 23, he helped finalize plans to quietly return to the bargaining table.
A simple majority is required to accept or reject the proposed settlement. Acceptance would end the four-week work stoppage, which began on Oct. 7.
