It's Three Birds; It's Not Plain; It's Turducken

Now Available at Schnucks!

ST. LOUIS -- If you haven't yet decided what to serve as a main course for your holiday dinners, you don't have to! You can have it all if you order early and order Turducken, a unique and flavorful combination of Turkey, Duck and Chicken soon available at some St. Louis area Schnucks stores.

According to Cy Jansen, vice president of meat operations at Schnucks, Turducken is a taste sensation any way you slice it! "They start with a boneless chicken stuffed with cornbread dressing. This is placed inside a boneless duck. The duck is then surrounded by seasoned pork sausage, and all of this is placed inside a boneless turkey," he said. "When serving the Turducken, the visual contrast of the ingredients makes a great plate presentation."

Jansen says a Schnucks customer's well-timed trip to Destin, Fla. led to the discovery of Destin Ice Meat Market, a company that specializes in the unusual recipe. "It was a chance to add some excitement to holiday dining. The Turducken is not only a very tasty main dish alternative, it's also a beautifully prepared conversation piece for your dinner table," he said.

A 16-pound Turducken will feed up to 20 people and sells for $49.95. Five-pound half Turduckens will also be available. They feed up to 10 people and are sold at $29.95. The Turducken will be flying into stores by Saturday, Nov. 22, but in very limited quantities. Schnucks meat departments will have a few, but Jansen recommends calling ahead to confirm availability with your neighborhood store.

Schnuck Markets, Inc currently operates 100 stores and 93 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Mississippi and Tennessee. The company is listed 83rd in the Forbes Magazine listing of the nation's "Top 500 Private Companies." The family-owned company was founded in St. Louis in 1939.
