Clinics Available for a Limited Time
ST. LOUIS -- Bone Mineral Density testing for men and women are being conducted at select Schnucks Pharmacies throughout January.
According to Schnucks Director of Pharmacy Curtis Hartin, R. Ph., the company is bringing the service to its customers for just a fraction of the normal cost. "Through Schnucks' partnership with Covenant Medial Services, Inc, our customers will have an opportunity to receive the test for a nominal fee of $25," said Hartin.
Hartin added, "We are pleased to be able to offer each adult a personal consultation with a trained health professional and a full-color graphic of the test to show the family physician. The entire process, from consult to test, will take approximately 10 minutes. Because no appointment is necessary and testing can be worked into grocery shopping, it's very convenient."
Chuck Schulte, president of Covenant Medical Services, says, "Approximately 44 million women and men in the United States suffer from osteoporosis or osteopenia, and most don't know it. Osteoporosis is a `silent' disease," said Schulte. "It gives few symptoms and little warning - until it's too late. However, the disease is treatable if diagnosed early."
Schulte says only a bone density test (densitometry) that measures bone strength can detect the disease. "It is quick, accurate and painless. Just by presenting your non-dominant wrist for scanning, you will know in just a few minutes whether or not you are at risk for fractures and other ailments caused by brittle bones."
Clinics are ongoing, but if you missed the testing in your neighborhood you still have several opportunities to be tested in locations throughout the St. Louis area. It is recommended that women over 35 and men over 50 take advantage of this service. Just drop by one of the following Schnucks Pharmacies between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the dates shown:
Des Peres - 11945 Manchester, Jan. 15, 16, 17
Chesterfield - 141 Hilltown Village, Jan. 22, 23, 24
