Lake St. Louis Schnucks Team Gears Up for Summer Opening
ST. LOUIS - The finishing touches are now being put on the interior of the new Lake St. Louis Schnucks store located at 101 Civic Center Drive. The 63,000-square-foot facility will be the anchor for the new Shoppes at Lake St. Louis community shopping center and is slated to open in early summer.
Bob Pace, formerly manager of the Zumbehl Schnucks, is looking forward to stepping into his role as manager of the Lake St. Louis location. Pace said, "I am at the site every day overseeing the project, and everything is proceeding according to schedule. We're all very pleased with the way things are shaping up, but I am anxious for our customers to see what we've got to offer."
Pace, who has worked at Schnucks for 39 years, has had the opportunity to manage two new stores prior to Lake St. Louis, but that doesn't make this experience any less exciting for him. "It's like watching your own home come from the ground up. I'm not getting much sleep these days! I just want everything to be perfect when I tour customers through on opening day."
Store plans include the full complement of services you typically find at Schnucks including a full-service florist, in-store pharmacy, bakery specializing in custom cake decorating and a full-line liquor and wine department. There will be a cold beverage bar, a deli with a separate cash register and seating section, a service seafood department and sushi case and a hot and cold food and salad bar.
Although no date has been finalized, Pace says grand opening activities will include, of course, food! Pace said, "There will be all types of sampling opportunities throughout the store, and everyone's invited!"
At that time, customers will also meet DiDi Steltenpohl, formerly of the Dardenne Schnucks, who will join the new management team as co-manager and Janice Gober, formerly from the O'Fallon Schnucks, who will be the customer service manager.
To date, more than 85 percent of the store's 170-member team (including 60 transfers from other Schnucks stores) has been hired. Pace said, "The response to our advertisements has been tremendous. We'll soon begin training new associates and getting them acquainted with the our store and with our company."
Pace says part-time positions are still available and no advanced training is necessary. "Anyone interested in working is invited to visit the personnel trailer currently stationed in the store parking lot." He smiled, "In addition to hard workers, we're looking for the `friendliest people in town!'"
Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc currently operates 99 stores (including five Logli stores) and 92 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. The family-owned company is ranked 80th in the Forbes magazine listing of the nation's "Largest Private Companies."
