Schnucks Collierville Team Gears Up for July 14 Grand Opening

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. - Company officials for Schnuck Markets, Inc. today announced that the Collierville, Tenn. Schnucks store at 275 New Byhalia Road would be open for business and ready to serve area residents at 9 a.m., Wednesday, July 14.

The finishing touches are being put on the interior of the new 63,000-square-foot full-service food and drug store, which will be the anchor for the new Collierville Crossing community shopping center.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Craig Schnuck said, "We are excited to offer Collierville residents the same quality, variety, value and service they have experienced at other Schnucks stores." He added, "Since the groundbreaking last August, this project has progressed very smoothly and that's due in large part to Mayor Kerley and other town administrators. Their efforts will start paying off for the community on opening day."

The Collierville Schnucks will showcase fruits, vegetables and other perishables displayed "open market" style. This distinctive "market" format features vaulted ceilings and archways, and is quite popular among Schnucks shoppers in the other markets. It is the first of its kind among Schnucks Mid-South stores."

According to Schnuck, the store will include a full complement of services including a full-service florist, in-store pharmacy and bakery (specializing in custom cake decorating). There will be a cold beverage bar, a deli and grill with a separate cash register and seating section, a service seafood department and a hot and cold food and salad bar.

The Collierville location will mark the first of three new Schnucks supermarkets that will open in the next several months. A store at Stonebridge Crossing will follow in the fall, and a replacement for the Germantown Schnucks will open late 2004.

Dan Dettmer, 34-year Schnucks associate, is looking forward to stepping into his role as manager of the Collierville location. Dettmer said, "I am at the site every day overseeing the project, and everything is proceeding according to schedule. We're all very pleased with the way things are shaping up, but I am anxious for our customers to see what we have to offer." Thad Nathaniel will join the new management team as co-manager, and Carla Marr will be the new customer service manager.

To date, more than 90 percent of the store's 150-member team has been hired. "The response to our advertisements has been tremendous. We'll soon begin training our new associates and getting them acquainted with the store and the Schnucks philosophy," Dettmer said.

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 100 stores (including five Logli stores) and 93 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. Collierville will be the company's 101st store and the 12th in the Mid-South. The family-owned company is ranked 80th in the Forbes magazine listing of the nation's "Largest Private Companies."
