Gauss to Head Up Personnel for Schnucks in the Mid-South

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Temeka Gauss, 27, recently was promoted to human resource specialist, responsible for all human resource operations in the Mid-South division of Schnuck Markets, Inc. As part of her new position, Gauss has relocated to Memphis from St. Louis and is currently managing the hiring initiatives in the company's newest and fastest growing division.

In preparation for the grand opening of the Collierville Schnucks, Gauss hired nearly 130 people from a pool of more than 900. The new store opened on July 14 bringing the company's Mid-South store count to 12 stores and five convenience/fuel centers in Tennessee and Mississippi. Given the fluctuating economy, Gauss is anticipating an even greater number of applicants for the three new Schnucks full-service food and drug stores on the horizon.

Gauss graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis in 1995 and attended St. Louis Community College at Forest Park. In 2004, she graduated from the University of Missouri - St. Louis with a degree in business administration and an emphasis in finance.

In 1995, while attending classes, Gauss began her career with Schnucks as a cashier at the company's Ladue, Mo. location. Within four years, she was promoted to video manager. In 2001, she entered the Personnel Department at the company's Bridgeton office. Today, she operates as an extension of that office.

"I particularly enjoy the everyday contact with people that this industry affords," said Gauss. "The grocery store is a necessity for everyone. It's important that the people we hire help create an atmosphere that is open and warm and makes customers feel welcome."

Over the coming months, Gauss will work with store and department managers in the Mid-South to keep stores fully staffed and to bring all the new stores in line. In addition, she's looking forward to getting involved in the community through job fairs and other connections with high schools and colleges.

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 101 stores (including five Logli stores) and 94 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. The family-owned company is ranked 80th in the Forbes magazine listing of the nation's "Largest Private Companies."
