Flacke Promoted to Vice President of Labor Relations at Schnucks

Robert J. Flacke, formerly director of labor relations for Schnuck Markets, Inc., was recently promoted to vice president of labor relations.

Supervising a team of four labor relations professionals, Flacke coordinates labor initiatives for Schnucks management personnel responsible for more than 16,000 Schnucks and Logli associates in six states. Currently, he negotiates with the leaderships of 18 different unions and 33 collective bargaining agreements representing more than 11,000 associates.

In addition to his current duties at Schnucks, Flacke serves as chief negotiator for The Greater St. Louis Food Employers Council. The council is comprised of the area's three largest union grocers, Schnucks, Dierbergs and Shop `n Save and oversees the interests of more than 13,000 St. Louis metro area retail clerks.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Flacke's first job at age 16 was in the produce department for National Supermarket. He worked at National throughout high school and college where he earned a bachelors degree in business administration from St. Louis University. Additional human resources courses at Washington University would further prepare him for his career in labor relations.

He managed two stores before joining National's personnel department in 1966. Over the next 32 years, Bob gained experience in all areas of personnel including benefits, compensation, training, employment and labor relations. During that time, he became chief spokesperson for the supermarket industry.

In 1990, he joined Schnuck Markets and took charge of its labor relations team. Respected by individuals on both sides of the bargaining table, Flacke has developed a solid reputation as one of the area's leading labor negotiators.

Flacke and his wife, Bernie, live in Ballwin, Mo. They have two children and four grandchildren.

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 101 stores (including five Logli stores) and 94 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. The family-owned company is ranked 80th in the Forbes magazine listing of the nation's "Largest Private Companies."
