MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Company officials for Schnuck Markets, Inc. today announced that the Stonebridge Crossing Schnucks store at 9025 Highway 64 would be open for business and ready to serve area residents at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27.
The finishing touches are being put on the interior of the new 63,000-square-foot full-service food and drug store, which will be the anchor for the new Stonebridge Crossing community shopping center offering approximately 30,000 square feet of additional retail space.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Craig Schnuck said, "Mid-South residents had a chance to see at our Collierville location what we can do when we build a store from the ground up. We are excited to be able to expand this format to other areas and to be able to offer the full Schnucks compliment of quality, variety, value and service."
The Stonebridge Schnucks will showcase fruits, vegetables and other perishables displayed "open market" style. This distinctive "market" format features vaulted ceilings and archways, and is quite popular among Schnucks shoppers in the other markets. It is the second of its kind among Schnucks Mid-South stores.
According to Schnuck, the store will include a full complement of services including a full-service florist, in-store pharmacy and bakery (specializing in custom cake decorating). There will be a cold beverage bar, and deli with a separate cash register and seating section, a service meat department featuring Certified Angus Beef, service seafood department and a hot and cold food and salad bar.
The Stonebridge location is the second of three new Mid-South Schnucks supermarkets that are scheduled to open in 2004. A replacement for the Germantown Schnucks is scheduled to open later this year. A 2005 opening is scheduled for a new store in Olive Branch, Miss.
Former Bartlett Schnucks Store Manager Sue Carroll is celebrating 28 years with Schnucks by helping to open the brand new store, which she will manage. Carroll said, "When I first relocated to Mid-South, I fell in love with this neighborhood and the people and decided to buy a home in nearby. Now, thanks to the strong support customers have given Schnucks, I am going to be able work just about four miles from my home!" She added, "I am looking forward to welcoming everyone and providing customers with the same top-quality products at Schnucks' new low prices."
Tom Labrum will join the new management team as co-manager, and Jim Wilhelm will be the new customer service manager. (Jeff Churchwell will take over store management responsibilities at the Bartlett store.)
Carroll says she has hired 110 positions and three-fourths of the staff will be new Schnucks associates hired from the local community. "The response to our advertisements was tremendous. We have spent a good deal of time training everyone so that they will be ready and able to deliver strong customer service in keeping with the Schnucks philosophy of `customer first,'" Carroll said.
The Weston Group is developing the Stonebridge Crossing shopping Center in partnership with the landowner, Michael Lightman.
Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 101 stores (including five Logli stores) and 94 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. Stonebridge will be the company's 102st store and the 13th in the Mid-South. The family-owned company is ranked 80th in the Forbes magazine listing of the nation's "Largest Private Companies."
