GERMANTOWN, Tenn. - Company officials for Schnuck Markets, Inc. today announced that the Germantown Crossing Schnucks store at 7735 Farmington Blvd. would be open for business and ready to serve area residents at 9 a.m., Wed., Dec. 8. (The current store will close at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6.) The opening schedule was set to minimize inconvenience to customers
Once the new 63,000-square-foot store opens, the existing Germantown store and Super D drug store will be demolished and replaced by approximately 30,000 square feet of new retail space (including a relocated drug store). The result will be a brand new 15-acre shopping center, which will accommodate the existing AutoZone building at its present location.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Craig Schnuck said, "As part of the acquisition in 2002, we purchased a parcel of land that has provided us with the opportunity to significantly improve the shopping environment for our Germantown customers." He added, "The new store location will provide for easier access and expanded services, and the building facade will be more aesthetically consistent with the growing retail environment."
Built along the same lines as the recently opened Schnucks stores in Collierville and Stonebridge Crossing, the new Germantown Schnucks has a designed "open market" style, which helps showcase fruits, vegetables and other perishables. This distinctive "market" format features vaulted ceilings and archways and is quite popular among Schnucks shoppers in the other markets.
According to Schnuck, the store will include a full complement of services including a full-service florist, in-store pharmacy and bakery (specializing in custom cake decorating). There will be a cold beverage bar, deli and grill with a separate cash register and seating section, a service meat department featuring Certified Angus Beef®, a service seafood department with sushi and a hot and cold food and salad bar.
The Germantown location is the final of three new Mid-South Schnucks supermarkets that opened in 2004.
Current Store Manager Lana Lentz will also manage the new store, and that means that she's presently doing double duty. "Our time now is split between serving customers at the current location and ensuring that the new store is ready to welcome them on opening day. We are estimating there will be only 39 hours of down time, and that's pretty good when you consider the enormity of this undertaking. We are committed to making sure the transition goes as smoothly as possible," Lentz said. "I believe our customers will be amazed to see what we can do when we have an additional 20,000 square feet to work with!"
Shane Smith will join the management team as co-manager, and Rhonda Martin will continue her duties as customer service manager.
