Schnucks Bettendorf Store to Open May 24

BETTENDORF, Iowa -- On Tuesday, May 24 at 9 a.m., the Quad Cities' first Schnucks grocery store will open for business in Bettendorf. The Schnucks Marketplace Bettendorf is located in Duck Creek Plaza at 858 Middle Road and is a variation of a new, state-of-the-industry prototype.

Schnucks Chairman and CEO Craig Schnuck said, "We are looking forward to welcoming Quad City customers on opening day and seeing their reaction to our newest project. I predict the store's customer-friendly layout and product displays are going to make a trip to the grocery store seem more like entertainment!"

Schnuck says, "Opening day, like every other day at Schnucks, will focus on the customer. Everything on the site is proceeding according to schedule thanks to the good work of our local contractors." He added, "My brothers and I are looking forward to greeting many of our new customers at the grand opening," said Schnuck.

According to Schnuck, customers in the Quad Cities will find the same unique combination of offerings Schnucks is known for in other markets. "We are proud to say that, as a combination food and drug store, we have everything our customers are looking for including quality, service, value, variety and convenience," he said.

Store Manager John Carr agrees and says he's anxious to give customers a first tour of the new store. "Our engineers came up with an interesting new floor plan that will make our store easier to shop than most others," he explained, "Eight foot aisles are family friendly and allow customers to flow freely from department to department. As an added convenience, we have made room for our `grab and go' items right in the front of the store. I think the potential for this store is incredible. There is nothing like it in the market."

Carr says in his store you will find all the offerings you would expect from Schnucks. "You will find a custom floral department, in-store bakery, expansive deli/seafood section and a service meat department," he said. "In addition to Certified Angus Beef (Schnucks is the world's largest retailer of Certified Angus Beef), the store will also offer extensive selection of fresh poultry and seafood on ice."

The new 63,000-square-foot store will employ more than 200 full-time and part-time associates. The Schnucks human resources team has received more than 1,000 applicants for grocery jobs and has hired more than 60% of the total needed. Applications are still being accepted.

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 102 stores (including five Logli stores) and 97 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Mississippi. Bettendorf is the company's 103rd store location. The family-owned company ranks 94th in the Forbes magazine listing of the nation's "Largest Private Companies."
