Schnuck Markets, Inc. Announce Donation of $1 Million to Hurricane Relief Efforts
ST. LOUIS - The Schnuck Family of St. Louis and Schnuck Markets, Inc. today announced plans to donate $1 million in cash and in-kind donations to the ongoing relief effort in the Gulf Coast.
The donation will be handled in three parts: cash, in-kind donations and reimbursement of volunteer time. A $500,000 cash donation will be split equally between the Salvation Army and Red Cross relief efforts. An additional $250,000 will be provided in product donations (including transportation of the product), and $250,000 will be allotted for volunteer services.
Schnucks operates stores in seven states including Mississippi, one of those hardest hit. No Schnucks stores have been directly affected by the recent onslaught of Hurricane Katrina. However, in the face of one of the nation's worst natural disasters in history, company leaders say they were moved to make these contributions.
Schnucks selected the Salvation Army and the Red Cross because of ongoing partnerships with both agencies. Details of product donation and volunteer time management are just a few of the points to be addressed over the next several days.
Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 103 stores (including five Logli stores) and 99 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Mississippi and Iowa. The family-owned company ranks 94th in the Forbes magazine listing of the nation's "Largest Private Companies."
