ST. LOUIS - Can't decide turkey, chicken or duck for the holidays? You can have all three when you buy a Turducken at area Schnucks store. This flavorful "bird" offers a unique blend of turkey, chicken and duck and is a taste sensation any way you slice it!
Cy Jansen, vice president of meat operations at Schnucks, explains, "Turducken is actually a whole turkey, stuffed with a duck, that is stuffed with a chicken and three flavors of dressing packed in between for extra flavor. It's the meat equivalent of a Neapolitan dessert!"
Jansen says a trip to Memphis led to the discovery of Destin Ice Meat market, a Florida-based company that was shipping Turduckens to customers in the Mid-South. "Our customers were buying it and we were able to source it," said Jansen. "We've been offering Turducken at the holidays for the past two years and its popularity is growing. Not only does it taste great, people see it as a chance to add some excitement to holiday dining and satisfy different dinner requests at the same time! It's also a great conversation piece for your dinner table."
Jansen suggests that you call ahead to the meat department or allow time for them to bring in a Turducken from another location. "Some of our stores sell more of them than others so not all of them will have the bird in-store." The whole Turducken sells at $54.95 while a half Turducken sells for $32.95.
Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 102 stores (including five Logli stores) and 99 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Mississippi and Iowa.
