SAVOY, Ill. - In Spring of 2007, residents of the Village of Savoy, Ill. can look forward to shopping at a brand new full-service Schnucks Marketplace. The 58,000-square-foot full-service food and drug store (about the size of a football field including end zones) will anchor the $9 million redevelopment of Savoy Plaza at the corner of Curtis Road and U.S. 45.
On Thursday, June 8, Schnucks representatives and village officials joined Evansville, Ind.-based developer Regency Properties at the official groundbreaking.
"Every new store is an opportunity for Schnucks to bring our unique combination of services to new customers, and this gives us an opportunity to show the Savoy community our newest store design," said Schnucks Division Manager Ray Warren. "I thank our friends at Regency and the village officials who have helped keep this project on target." Warren also serves as division manager for the nearby Schnucks stores in Champaign and Urbana.
According to Warren the new store will create approximately 200 new jobs for the area and will also include a drive-through pharmacy.
Along with Schnucks, the first phase of the project makes additional retail space available to new tenants who wish to take advantage of the renovations and upgrades being made to Savoy Plaza. The second phase of the project will include a new Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant.
Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. currently operates 102 stores (including five Logli stores) and 99 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Mississippi and Iowa.
