Collinsville Schnucks Recalls Ground Beef Processed June 26

Voluntary recall applies to all varieties of beef ground today before 2 p.m.

ST. LOUIS – Schnuck Markets, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall on 40 packages of ground beef sold today, Monday, June 26 before 2 p.m. at its Collinsville, Ill. store at 501 Belt Line Road. The recalled packages, printed with a “sell by” date of June 27, may contain small metal shavings.

A customer called today to alert the store that there was a potential problem. There have been no reports of injury or illness. All varieties of ground beef were removed from the meat cases and the grinding equipment was inspected, cleaned and sanitized before production resumed.

Ed Meyer, Schnucks vice president of meat and seafood operations, encourages any customer who purchased ground beef from the Collinsville store today, Monday, before 2 p.m. to return the packages for a full refund or exchange.

This is an isolated incident. No other stores are involved in this recall. Customers with questions can call Schnucks’ Consumer Affairs department at 314-994-4400 or 800-264-4400.
