First instaClinic Set To Open At Mid Rivers Schnucks

ST. PETERS, Mo. - When preparing to open the region's first grocery store health clinic, instaClinic, a typical grand opening ribbon just doesn't seem to cut it! That's why Schnucks and instaClinic officials have decided to do something a bit different during the open house scheduled Saturday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Schnucks store located at 577 Mid Rivers Mall Drive.

Patricia Sohn, president of instaClinic explains, "Symbolizing that we hope to help reduce some of the barriers to access and continuity of care by working closely with the local medical community, we will stretch and cut a long strip of gauze material (a common medical dressing) across the entrance of the clinic. We appreciate all the support from so many who had a hand in getting us to this point and we thought this ceremony would be a unique way for them to share in the grand opening."

The clinic began serving clients about a week ago, and Sohn says word is spreading quickly about the new service. "The Open House is our formal introduction to area families who will be our primary demographic. Busy families and individuals frequently report that getting quality and convenient healthcare in a timely manner is very important to them. Our extended clinic hours will make us an easier access point for common illnesses and preventive care as well as referrals into the local health system," Sohn said.

In addition to officials from Schnucks and instaClinic, the gauze-cutting event will include special community partners. "We have invited Dr. Aubra A. Houchin, M.D., our collaborating physician at that location. He is an independent family practitioner on staff at Barnes Jewish St. Peters Hospital and is cultivating support from local primary care physicians," Sohn said. "We look forward to partnering with physicians in St. Peters and throughout the St. Louis region, including in some underserved areas. Also joining us for the Open House will be our chief medical officer, Jude Reed, M.D."

"Parveen Chand, assistant administrator at Barnes Jewish St. Peters Hospital, is working closely with us to develop cooperative opportunities that will strengthen the healthcare services in the St. Peters area." Sohn said that instaClinic hopes to work with the hospital to deliver healthcare screenings and provide support for minor ailments, helping to ease some of the burden from the emergency room. Our intention is to work closely with existing providers, complementing their services in the St. Peters area."

Mike Juergensmeyer, Schnucks vice president of General Merchandise and Pharmacy, says, "This has been a team effort all along, and we are pleased that after months of planning we are finally ready to bring a new outlet for quality healthcare to our customers. The clinics will strengthen Schnucks Pharmacy offerings and complement education and counseling services already in place."

Juergensmeyer says that instaClinic is also coming soon to Schnucks stores at Butler Hill, Alton and Lindell. Most of these locations will open over the course of the next few weeks. "We have just completed an extensive remodel at the Lindell location and the new instaClinic will soon be an added bonus to the customers of the Central West End neighborhood," he said.

Several more clinics are planned across the region over the next two years. Officials say they are very pleased with the experienced team of skilled nurse practitioners who will operate their clinics and they continue to recruit more. Nurse practitioners interested in a full-time or part-time position with instaClinic should call 314-238-1337.
