Schnucks Announces Partnership With Kaldi's Coffee

Grocer will open first coffee bar at new Twin Oaks location

ST. LOUIS - Schnucks customers will notice many new amenities when the Twin Oaks replacement store, located at 1393 Big Bend Road, opens at 9 a.m. on Tuesday Jan. 30, but one of the most obvious for coffee lovers will be the new Kaldi's Coffee Bar.

Kaldi's Coffee specializes in roasting and selling an array of fine quality coffees and espressos. Located just inside the store's entrance, the new coffee bar will mimic the look and feel of other Kaldi's Coffee Houses.

Kaldi's Spokesperson Tricia Zimmer-Ferguson said, "We are extremely excited to be able to offer Schnucks customers our distinct coffees and espressos. Like Schnucks, Kaldi's is

St. Louis-based and family owned. We look forward to combining the Schnucks grocery experience with our knowledge of coffee to create a strong partnership that will offer great benefits to our growing customer base."

Zimmer-Ferguson says the Twin Oaks coffee bar menu will include some of the most popular drinks including fresh fruit smoothies, frozen blended coffee drinks, espressos and lattes of all types. Bags of Kaldi's coffee will be sold at the bar as well as on the grocer's shelves.

The coffee bar project is being spearheaded by Schnucks Vice President of Bakery Bill Mihu. According to Mihu, Schnucks will have an exclusive agreement with Kaldi's for in-store coffee houses. "We currently have plans to bring a Kaldi's to customers at our Woods Mill location (1060 Woods Mill Road) in Chesterfield. As we build or remodel stores, our intent is to add coffee bars in stores where we believe the demand will be high and where space is available," Mihu said.

Mihu says the bars will also feature Schnucks bakery offerings. "Our customers will be able to pair their coffee with donuts, muffins and scones. As an added convenience, final installations are underway for internet connections that will be made available through Wi-Fi capabilities in the nearby seating area."

Grand Opening specials will include heavy sampling, $1-off coupons on Kaldi's bagged coffee and a punch card that promises a free 12th drink.
