Carolina Culinary Foods Recalls Grilled Chicken Breast Strips

Strips may be contaminated with Listeria

ST. LOUIS - Carolina Culinary Foods, of West Columbia, S.C., has recalled 6-ounce packages of Oscar Mayer/Lewis Rich Chicken Breast Strips With Rib Meat - Grilled because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Consumers are urged to check for the 6-ounce package with UPC: 7187155721 and a "Use by" date of 19 Apr 2007.

Schnucks and Logli customers in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi may return the specified product to their nearest Schnucks or Logli store for a full refund.

The problem was discovered through microbiological testing completed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. There have been no reports of illness associated with consumption of this product.

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. However, listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.

Consumers with questions may contact the Kraft Consumer Response line at 1-800-871-7117 or Schnucks Consumer Affairs Department at 314-994-4400 or 1-800-264-4400.
