Schnuck Markets' O'Brien To Head Up Produce For Better Health Foundation

ST. LOUIS - As Schnuck Markets, Inc. continues to lead the way in providing its customers with the freshest fruits and vegetables, the company's Vice President of Produce Mike O'Brien, 53, will head up the Produce for Better Health Foundation as the national organization's chairman.

O'Brien will lead the organization as it launches its new Fruits & Veggies - More Matters health initiative. O'Brien says that Schnucks customers will soon notice new logos and messaging in the produce department in support of this new program.

"Our customers are interested in learning how to include more fruits and vegetables in their families' meals," O'Brien said. "We will be providing them with tips on everything from selecting the best produce to how to get their children to eat more.

O'Brien is a veteran of the supermarket industry having spent the last 35 with Schnucks. In 2000, he was tapped from store operations to head up the produce departments of Schnucks 101 stores, and in 2004, O'Brien was named "Retailer of the Year" by Produce Merchandising magazine.

Produce for Better Health Foundation is a 15-year old nonprofit organization whose mission is to motivate people to eat more fruits and vegetables for a healthier America. The foundation is co-chair and member of the National Fruit & Vegetable Program, consisting of government agencies, nonprofit organizations and industry working in collaboration to expand nationwide efforts in increase consumption of fruits and vegetables for improved public health.

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 101 stores (including five Logli stores) and 98 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
