Savoy Customers Invited to Help Open New Schnucks Store on Oct. 17

Date also marks company’s 17th anniversary in Champaign County

 

            SAVOY, Ill. - Schnuck Markets, Inc. will expand its services in Champaign County when the company’s new 58,000-square-foot store opens in Savoy at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2007.  The Schnucks Champaign store opened exactly 17 years earlier on October 17, 1990 and the Urbana store followed in 1997.  The full-service food and drug store in Savoy will mark the third Schnucks in the county and the 103rd overall. 

            According to Schnucks Chairman and CEO Scott Schnuck, Savoy is a growing community and a prime location for a new store.  “We have wanted to expand our service to customers in Champaign County for quite some time.  We are fortunate to have a loyal following of customers who will be excited to have another convenient location and we are looking forward to earning new customers with this new, state-of-the-art supermarket.”

            In addition to the produce and quality perishables for which Schnucks is known, the 24-hour store, located at 1301 Savoy Plaza, will offer more than 45,000 different items across all departments, and will feature a full-service pharmacy that includes a drive-thru.  Other amenities include a meat department featuring restaurant-quality Certified Angus Beef®, an olive bar and a fresh soup kiosk.  Customers will also notice the store is easier to navigate due to the eight-foot, family-friendly aisles.

            Sue Carroll, a Schnucks associate with more than 30 years experience, will lead the new team at store manager.  Carroll is relocating from Schnucks’ Mid-South division, but is no stranger to the area having worked at the Champaign Schnucks from 1990 to 2001.  “I feel like I’m back home,” Carroll said.  “We have established a great crew with a unified goal of serving our customers.” 

            According to Carroll, the Savoy Schnucks will employ approximately 175 associates with more than 150 of those being new positions.              

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 102 stores (including five Logli stores) and 99 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
