The presence of Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

The potential for contamination was noted after testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that detected the presence of Salmonella in some packages of the aforementioned product. The company is aggressively investigating the source of the problem. No other varieties of Baker's White Chocolate or any other Baker's products sold in the United States are impacted by this recall.
