Schnucks DeKalb Store To Open To Customers on Dec. 4

DeKalb, Ill. – On Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 9 a.m., DeKalb’s first Schnucks supermarket will open to customers. The Schnucks DeKalb Marketplace, located in Glidden Crossing shopping center at 975 South Annie Glidden Road, is a new, state-of-the-industry prototype.

Schnucks Chairman and CEO Scott Schnuck said, “Our focus is always on our customers and never has this been more apparent then in this new marketplace store, a variation of a floor plan recently debuted in St. Louis. We are anxious to get reactions from DeKalb area customers who, we believe, will find the new layout easy to shop.”

Store Manager Dave Sherman, formerly a manager in nearby Rockford, agrees and says, “Our engineers came up with an exciting floor plan that includes wider, family friendly aisles. At 58,000 square feet, it’s a full-service food and drug store, but the new layout makes it possible to shop only those areas of the stores you need. There is nothing like it in the market.”

Sherman says in his store customers will find a custom floral department, in-store bakery, expansive deli department, seafood section and a service meat department (featuring Certified Angus Beef^®). In addition, there will be a made-to-order sandwich shop, a fresh-soup kiosk, a food and salad bar and an olive bar.

Schnuck says, “Our DeKalb store will be one of the first to open with all of the new amenities we have added over the past few months.” He explained, “Along with our quality products and services, we are excited to be able to bring added value through our new low pricing philosophy, grand opening values and our newly launched Free Generic Prescription Antibiotic Program.”

Schnucks recently announced that Schnucks pharmacies will offer free up to a 21-day supply of 54 antibiotics in seven different families (including the often prescribed amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin and penicillin) to customers with a valid prescription. Schnuck confirms that all is proceeding according to schedule thanks to the good work of our local contractors. “My brothers and I are looking forward to greeting many of our new customers at the grand opening this holiday season.”

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 102 stores (including five Logli stores) and 99 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
