According to Schnucks Director of Facilities Maintenance
John Behr, by the end of this weekend, the cleaning and sanitizing efforts in the
59,000-square-foot market will be complete.
Restocking will begin immediately after officials from the
"Due to damage from heavy smoke and soot throughout the store, it's been a challenging recovery process that required a lot of teamwork from our own associates and local partners who joined in the effort," said Behr.
"Our first concern was for the safe and efficient removal of product throughout the store. We then set out to clean and sanitize every part of the store and equipment from ceiling to the floor. We soon will be ready for our approvals and for restocking, allowing for a Feb. 5 reopening."
Behr said throughout the various stages of the recovery, work was supervised by local volunteer firefighters, Franklin County Health Department officials, associates of the Washington store, Schnucks Food Safety and Quipco Maintenance teams and Catco, Inc., catastrophe cleaning and restoration company.
"Everyone really pulled together to make sure this store was returned to its customers as quickly as possible, and that was our motivation for what turned out to be a very successful team effort," said Behr. "Many of our associates have been working at other locations since the fire, but they are anxious to return to their home store and to their hometown customers."
Behr says, through Monday, pharmacy customers can
continue calling in prescriptions at 636-239-4120. The phone call will be rerouted to the Schnucks
