Schnucks Announces "Scan & Give" To Benefit Memorial Fund

DEKALB, Ill. - Shoppers wanting to donate to the DeKalb/Sycamore County Memorial fund can simply do so on their next trip to the new Schnucks store located at 975 South Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb.

Donations will go towards a community remembrance of the tragic incident at Northern Illinois University that took place on Feb. 14. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds will be used to provide scholarships through the university's February 14 Scholarship Fund. The memorial fund was established by the DeKalb and Sycamore Chambers of Commerce

According to DeKalb Store Manager Dave Sherman, Schnucks shoppers can look for a sign at each checklane explaining the program. "As they check out, our customers have the opportunity to donate $3 or $5 to Scan & Give, and the amount they choose is scanned by the checker and added to their grocery bill," Sherman said.

The program will run through March 2. The funds collected will be distributed by the board members of the DeKalb County Community Fund, representatives of Northern Illinois University and other local non-profit groups.

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 103 stores (including five Logli stores) and 100 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
