Schnucks Goes Green in Celebration of Earth Day

ST. LOUIS – Earth Day is April 22, and Schnucks is doing its part by providing supermarket shoppers with more “green” products than ever before.

According to Schnucks Vice President of Center Store Lori Caster, customers looking for eco-friendly cleansers and household items need look no further.  “Shoppers can make Schnucks their green destination for all their home care options,” Caster said.  “We take pride in the fact that Schnucks not only offers the highest quality products, but we sell a whole host of products that are healthier for you to use at home and guaranteed not to harm the environment.”

Schnucks Category Manager Joe Duggan says in celebration of Earth Day, Schnucks stores soon will feature a “Green Cleaning” section that centralizes items in one easy-to-find location. “In this section, customers will find many of the eco-friendly products from manufacturers such as Clorox Green Works, Seventh Generation Cleaners and Method,” Duggan said.

“Our customers may have noticed an important new trend among leading laundry detergent manufacturers.  Most have concentrated their formula by 50 percent allowing for smaller bottles and less plastic being used,” Duggan added.  The detergent aisle at all Schnucks stores has been reset to accommodate the reduction in size, and manufacturers have provided shelf signs explaining the change and instructions on how to use the concentrated product.

Schnucks Director of Private Brands Tom McMunn says the Schnucks private brands are also ahead of the trend.  “Our Full Circle line of natural and organic products recently introduced laundry and household cleaning items at a price lower than the national brands and just as effective.”

“All Full Circle household and cleaning items are eco-friendly and biodegradable,” said McMunn.  “They are safe for septic systems and developed from renewable resources which will appeal to our customers, many of whom are becoming more environmentally conscious and tell us they appreciate how we have responded with these very affordable products.”

Caster says that Schnucks shoppers should keep their eyes open for additional new “green” products.  “Schnucks now carries nearly 300 different natural and organic products in its Full Circle line.  This is a category that will continue to grow as we all work together to become better caretakers of our bodies and our environment,” Caster said.

Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. operates 103 stores (including five Logli stores) and 100 pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi.
