Schnucks Has Great News for Celiac Sufferers!

Select Schnucks stores to offer customers Beck’s Gluten Free products

ST. LOUIS – More than three million people in the United States struggle daily to avoid a host of common food and beverages that contain gluten proteins found in wheat, barley and rye.  Now, Schnucks is teaming up with Beck’s Gluten Free of Ellisville, Mo. to make a wide range of fresh and prepared gluten-free foods available to gluten-intolerant consumers throughout the metropolitan area.

Gluten intolerance, commonly known as Celiac Disease, is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten protein found in a wide range of beverages and foods.  In some people, gluten protein attacks the digestive process of the small intestines and interferes with the body’s absorption of nutrients.  If left untreated, the disease can be life threatening.

Schnucks Director of Marketing Services Larry Maggio says in the past year the company has seen an increase in demand for gluten-free products as the diet has been found to relieve symptoms of other diseases.  “Thanks to our new partnership with Beck’s, we are now able to extend our selection of national and private brand products that carry the ‘gluten free’ label to include fresh baked goods and prepared foods,” Maggio said.

“Customers may order product via phone (636-527-5000) or through either of the companies’ websites,” said Maggio.  “Beck’s will deliver to Schnucks on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.  Orders placed before noon will be available the next delivery day after 4 p.m. at one of 13 select Schnucks stores (see list below).  If placed after noon, they will be available the following delivery day.”

Beck’s Owner Joy Kahlmeyer says families travel across the region to stock up on food made fresh daily at their dedicated gluten-free facility at 15622 Manchester Road.  “Our customers love the quality and taste of our breakfast items, appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, side dishes, sauces, pizzas, breads, pastries and cakes,” she said.  “Adding 13 additional Schnucks stores as pick-up sites will help solve the geographic challenge and make our products accessible to the growing number of people hoping to sustain a gluten-free lifestyle.”

In addition to the new Beck’s services and other naturally gluten-free offerings, Schnucks also sells several specialty gluten-free products from Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods and offers Anheuser Busch Redbridge beer – certified safe for those on gluten-free diets.
