Local Chapter of Les Dames d Escoffier Offers Food Industry Scholarships
MillerCoors, Schnuck Markets and Les Dames team up to support culinary education in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier International (LDEI), a worldwide philanthropic organization of professional women in the food, fine beverage and hospitality fields, today announced four scholarship opportunities. Women of the greater St. Louis region who are pursuing career education in the culinary arts or related industry (e.g. baking, pastry, catering, fine beverages, hospitality and restaurant management) qualify to apply for one of four $2,000 scholarships.
According to local chapter President Kathy Gottsacker, “The Anna Schnuck Scholarship Awards” are being made possible by a grant from MillerCoors LLC and named in honor of the late founder and matriarch of one of their partners, St. Louis-based grocery company Schnuck Markets, Inc. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of financial need, academic accomplishments (3.0 G.P.A. or above), references, goals and culinary experience.
Gottsacker explains, “It’s amazing how far our chapter has come in only three years time. That is only possible thanks to committed community partners like MillerCoors and Schnuck Markets who support the mission of Les Dames d’Escoffier. In providing these opportunities, they have accelerated our local philanthropic efforts and helped jump start our mission of making a difference in the lives of women in the St. Louis food community.”
Gottsacker says women of the greater St. Louis region (no matter where they choose to study) may submit a 750-word essay focusing on their short-term and long-term goals in culinary arts or related industry.
Applications may be obtained by contacting Scholarship Committee Chair Cecily Hoffius at 314-570-4955 or by email at email@example.com. Applications are due by May 1, 2011. All applications will be reviewed based on the St. Louis Chapter’s standardized and weighted criteria. Scholarship money will go directly to the recipients’ education institution and must be used for tuition only (no part may be applied to living expenses). Funds must be used between Aug. 1, 2011 and July 31, 2012.
Les Dames d’Escoffier International (LDEI) is the only organization of its kind: a worldwide philanthropic society of professional women leaders in the fields of food, fine beverage and hospitality. The invitation-only membership composed of 27 individual chapters across the United States and Canada is highly diversified and reflects the multifaceted fields of contemporary gastronomy and hospitality. The St. Louis Chapter of LDEI (future host of the 2012 LDEI Annual Conference) was founded in 2008 and now includes 33 women of food from across the St. Louis Region.
