Fredbird to Host Kids Voting Registration Drive at Lindell Boulevard Schnucks
Young people in grades K-12 are invited to participate
ST. LOUIS – In an effort to get young people interested in the election process, St. Louis Cardinals mascot Fredbird, has stepped up to the plate to stress the importance of voting. He will meet young citizens and “register” them to vote at the Lindell Schnucks on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. as part of the Kids Voting program.
The store team at the Schnucks at 4171 Lindell Blvd. (63108) are partnering with representatives of Kids Voting Missouri, the St. Louis Election Board, Cardinals Care and the St. Louis Public Schools to promote the importance of voting to local youth.
According to Kids Voting Missouri Director Sandy Diamond, the November 2008 election is shaping up to be a big one among our youth. “Kids Voting estimates that, thanks to the support from local schools and businesses, more than 216,000 K-12 St. Louis metro area students will have the opportunity to participate in this exciting youth voter education program,” Diamond said.
“At Schnucks, children will find plenty of fun activities at the store while learning about the election process,” said Diamond. “In addition to receiving a student voter registration card, we will provide students a list of all their elected officials if they provide us with their address,” she said.
Children are also encouraged to bring their parents and help register them to vote. Adult voter registration will take place from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Members on the St. Louis Election Board and other organizations will be on hand to conduct voter registration and verify addresses.
Kids Voting Missouri is a non-partisan, non-profit program aimed at teaching students in grades K-12 about citizenship and voting; it is administered by the College of Education at UMSL. For more information about Kids Voting Missouri, please visit www.kidsvotingmissouri.org.
