Summer School at Schnucks: Specialty Melons 101

Schnucks to host Frieda’s Produce University® on Summer Melons, Saturday, June 30

ST. LOUIS – Schnucks is hosting a tasty summer refresher course with another session of Frieda’s Produce University®.  The free open-house style sampling event will be held in the produce department at all Schnucks, Logli and Hilander locations on Saturday, June 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Schnucks’ produce staff will conduct free tastings and share their knowledge of summer melons throughout the day.  On the curriculum are three gourmet melons: Honey Kiss®, Golden Kiss® and Sugar Kiss®, grown exclusively by the specialty melon farm, Sandstone Marketing of Yuma, Ariz.

Shoppers are welcome to drop in anytime on June 30 to discover the melt-in-your-mouth flavor and refreshing qualities of Schnucks’ sweet summer melons.

“The Kiss® melons are not your average cantaloupes — their sweetness is outstanding,” said Karen Caplan, CEO of Frieda’s Inc.  “Wow your friends and family with these Kiss® melons at your summer barbecues.”

Schnucks has partnered with Frieda’s for Produce University® sessions throughout the year, each with a different theme. “Produce University® highlights our produce teams’ knowledge of a wide variety of specialty produce through the seasons,” said Mike O’Brien, Vice President of Produce at Schnucks.  “Whether it is winter citrus, Chinese New Year or holiday cooking items, our shoppers can learn how to select and enjoy them in our store, directly from our team.”

Since 1989, Frieda's Produce University® has helped educate consumers with in-depth product information, preparation ideas and samples of the latest specialty fruits and vegetables within grocers’ produce departments.
