Garden Fresh Foods Recalls Select Salads from Schnucks Meat Departments

Onions used in the salads were previously recalled by Gills Onions

Garden Fresh Foods is recalling four varieties of salads because they contain Gills Onions; a random sample of the onions recently tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.  No illnesses have been reported with this recall.

Schnucks, Logli and Hilander meat department customers should check for the following products all in a 2-lb. tub with expiration date of 8/15/12:

Potato Salad, UPC: 1159624200

Mustard Potato Salad, UPC: 1159624215

Cole Slaw, UPC: 1159624203

Macaroni Salad, UPC: 1159624210

Customers may return any unused portion for a full refund or exchange.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.  Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.  Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Customers with questions may contact Garden Fresh Foods at 1-800-645-3367 or the Schnucks Consumer Affairs department at 314-994-4400 or 1-800-264-4400.
