Remodel Set to Get Underway at Schnucks Centralia

CENTRALIA, Ill. – Schnucks Centralia customers can look forward to a remodel in their Schnucks store located at 1129 West Broadway.  The update, set to begin Monday, July 15, will make room for expanded services.

According to Store Manager Larry Hoelscher, in addition to a reconfiguration of space to enhance the overall shopping experience, plans call for a new décor and sign package.  “We want our Centralia customers to feel as if they are shopping inside a new Schnucks store once the remodel is complete,” Hoelscher said.

Hoelscher says one highlight of the remodel that he is most excited about is an expansion of gluten-free product offerings in both the grocery and frozen foods areas.  One of the most frequent customer requests is for more gluten-free products.  We’ve listened to our customers and now are proud to offer one of the largest selections of gluten-free items in the area,” he said.  “Going from a four-foot section to a 16-foot section allows us to offer many of the newest specialty items on the market.”

Several other areas of the store will also see upgrades including new cases in the frozen foods, dairy, produce, meat and deli departments while the floral, bakery and produce departments will receive upgraded lighting.  Customer restrooms will also be remodeled and upgraded.

Centralia Mayor Tom Ashby says “Schnucks has been a great community partner for nearly two decades.”

City Manager Dan Ramey states, “The citizens of Centralia have always been pleased with the quality and service that Schnucks gives its customers and the city is happy to see the sizable reinvestment in our community which shows Schnucks’ continued confidence in Centralia as well as continuing to provide employment for area residents.”

Hoelscher says the store will maintain normal business hours (6 a.m. – 10 p.m.) during construction.  He estimates the remodel should be complete in October.  “We ask for our customers’ patience as we work to bring them a better shopping experience,” he said.

Schnucks acquired the 40,000-squre-foot Centralia store in the 1995 National acquisition.  The store originally opened in 1971 and was last remodeled in 1999.
