Schnucks Adds David Steck as Vice President of IT Systems
ST. LOUIS – David (Dave) Steck has joined Schnuck Markets, Inc. in the new position of vice president of IT Infrastructure reporting to Chief Information Officer Bob Hardester. Formerly senior director of IT infrastructure, asset and spend management at Express Scripts, Steck brings 28 years of IT experience to the family grocery company.
At Schnucks, Steck will supervise an IT infrastructure team charged with the management of all critical applications running through the data centers – a broader role that will allow him to channel his experience in a variety of departments in order to explore the more detailed technical aspects of the Schnucks operation.
While at Express Scripts, Steck was responsible for the infrastructure budget and managing and directing the Infrastructure Asset Management Team tasked with driving synergy savings, developing strategies and negotiating new and existing vendor contracts.
According to Hardester, also new to Schnucks, “Schnucks is a progressive company whose leaders continue to place a high priority on technology in operations and as a means of communicating and connecting with customers. I see this as a unique opportunity for Dave to put his pharmacy and technology expertise to work in directly impacting and nourishing the lives of our customers,” Hardester said.
Steck is excited about the opportunity to delve more deeply into the analytics of the family-owned food and pharmacy company. “While pharmacy is familiar territory, grocery is a new industry which makes this especially intriguing for me,” he said. “It also plays to my strengths of working in a low-margin industry and exploring ways we can make life easier for our customers by improving the overall in-store and online experiences of shopping at Schnucks.”
A 1981 graduate of Lindbergh High School, Steck earned a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Missouri State University in 1986. Upon graduation, he joined McDonnell Douglas as a senior database analyst supporting various technology systems. In 1992, he moved to Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Missouri and served as manager of database systems.
Steck and his wife, Kaye, reside in Ballwin, Mo. They are parents to 23-year-old twin girls.
Founded in St. Louis in 1939, Schnuck Markets, Inc. is celebrating 75 years of serving customers in 2014. The family-owned company operates 98 stores and 94 in-store pharmacies in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa. Follow Schnucks on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Schnucks.
